Mills County 4-H Supporter Honored

AMES, Iowa -- Richard Godfrey, Henderson, received a State 4-H Alumni Recognition Aug. 26 in Ames. The award honors former 4-H members for their service to 4-H, community leadership, public service and success in their careers.

Godfrey and his wife Rita own and operate a cow-calf, corn, soybean and alfalfa farm. He also has worked in banking, extension and real estate. He was a member of 4-H for eight years in Mills County. He currently serves 4-H as a donor and a member of the Iowa 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees. He served as president of that organization in 1998-99.

"I credit 4-H with changing my life and contributing to my ability to serve in leadership positions and speak before groups," Godfrey said. "As an adult I'm giving back to 4-H in an attempt to return some of the benefits I received and to provide opportunities for other youth."

In his community, Godfrey is involved in his church, Kiwanis and the Mills-Montgomery Cattlemen Association. He has served as a beef superintendent at the Mills County Fair for a number of years. In 1998 he received the Friend of Extension Award in Southwest Iowa and in 1999 he received the Iowa State University Club of Southwest Iowa Service Key.
