Black Hawk County 4-H Supporter Honored

AMES, Iowa -- Donna Lee Schletzbaum, Hudson, received a State 4-H Alumni Recognition award Aug. 26 in Ames. The award honors former 4-H members for their service to 4-H, community leadership, public service and success in their careers.

Schletzbaum is a parent advisor with the Family Educator Connection Program. She was a member of 4-H for five years in Kansas. She currently serves 4-H as a volunteer leader, resource person, donor and member of both the county and fair committees. She also is a member of the Black Hawk County Fair Board.

"Whenever I heard the 4-H motto, 'To make the best better,' it was my stimulus to go one better," Schletzbaum said. "It goes back to my personal philosophy. I always felt if I was going to be on a committee, I was going to be involved. I didn't feel like I was doing my part unless I was contributing in some way."

In her community, Schletzbaum is involved in her church, the Hudson Public Schools and local learning disability organizations. She has served on the State Learning Disabilities Board since 1995 and has received the Learning Disabilities President Award for Outstanding Volunteerism.

Schletzbaum and husband John are the parents of three children.
