Join Iowa 4-H Foundation in Celebrating 50th Anniversary

AMES, Iowa -- Looking for a unique and fun way to spend Father's Day this year? Why not have your family join the 4-H family to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 4-H Foundation?

The celebration is being held to honor and remember the positive influence that 4-H has had on people's lives. Each year 4-H youth programs reach more than 120,000 youth. Those programs are supported by more than $1 million raised annually by the foundation.

The celebration kicks off Saturday, June 17 at the Iowa 4-H Education and Natural Resources Center near Madrid. Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. The afternoon activities include hiking, crafts and swimming. Saturday night will feature square dancing, a campfire service, a night hike and the rededication of Hickory Inspiration Point.

An inspiration service will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. It will be followed by brunch. The afternoon program includes a flag raising ceremony, dedication of the new brick patio and induction of two new members into the Honor Court. The celebration will end with family entertainment and anniversary cake.

All events except the meals are free. For overnight reservations, contact the Iowa 4-H Education and Natural Resources Center at (515) 795-2389. For more information call the Iowa 4-H Foundation at (515) 294-1537.
