2000 4-H Roundup Features International Agriculture

AMES, Iowa -- The May 15 registration deadline for the 4-H Animal Science Roundup is quickly approaching. Do not miss out on three days of fun-filled activity at Iowa State University, June 20 to 22.

This year's Roundup theme, "Iowa Shines in International Agriculture," will be introduced by keynote speaker Patty Judge, Iowa's Secretary of Agriculture. Judge will open Roundup by discussing Iowa's role in the export industry, international opportunities and the future of agriculture in Iowa.

Students will sample meals from around the world at an international agricultural luncheon. In addition, youth will participate in activities such as implanting cattle, exploring rumens, exercising horses on the treadmill, calculating feed rations with computers, managing manure and creating resumes.

The Roundup's educational overview of the livestock industry occurs in conjunction with the 2000 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. All Roundup delegates will share housing, meals and social activities with other youth from the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. Only daytime activities will differ depending on which event the youth registered for.

In the past, Roundup participants were selected to represent their county in one of six species areas including beef, sheep, dairy, dairy goat, swine and horses. This year registration has been opened to all high school youth (4-H, FFA, and non-members) with a background in animal science so counties can send more than one delegate in a single species area. Contact your local county extension office about registration or more information.
