6/30/00 News Release Contacts: Wakonda To Host Fourth Annual 4-H Golf Tournament AMES, Iowa -- "Going for the Green," a golf benefit hosted by the Iowa 4-H Foundation, tees off Monday, July 24 at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines. Hagie Manufacturing, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Pioneer Hi-Bred International, and Successful Farming magazine are sponsoring the fourth annual event. The tournament is an 18-hole best-shot scramble with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Prizes include a John Deere lawn tractor or a new golf cart to a lucky hole-in-one shooter. Other hole contests are planned with more than $1,300 in prizes awarded to individuals and low-scoring foursomes. Tournament activities include a pre-tournament golf clinic sponsored by the Iowa State University golf teams, an evening social, dinner and live auction. Participants may bid on autographed sports memorabilia, hunting trips and golf packages from popular Iowa courses. The entry fee is $250 per person. One-half of the fee is a charitable contribution to the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Proceeds benefit all Iowa 4-H'ers through Foundation grants, scholarships and financial assistance programs.
