6/23/00 Contacts: 4-H Camp Openings Still Available AMES, Iowa -- Youth still can register to attend several 4-H camps this summer. The camps Bull's Eye Basics, Discover the Leader Within, Horse Camp 2 and Outdoor Adventures still have openings for youth interested in attending. Bull's Eye Basics has openings for youth ages 12 to 15. The camp features shooting contests, high ropes, swimming and learning about Iowa's wildlife and game laws. Bull's Eye Basics takes place July 30 through Aug. 5 and costs $220. At the Discover the Leader Within camp, youth ages 14 to 17 can learn to become effective leaders while having a great time. This camp takes place July 23 through July 29 and costs $270. Horse Camp 2 is a chance for youth ages 10 to 16 to be trained on their own horses in Western and English saddle and attend clinics on barrel racing, jumping, showmanship and horse anatomy. Horse Camp 2 takes place July 9 through 15 and costs $390. The Outdoor Adventures camp offers hiking, canoeing, rappelling, climbing, outdoor cookery and sleeping under the stars for youth ages 9 to 11. This camp takes place June 25 through July 1 and costs $220. Most of the camps are held at the Iowa 4-H Education and Natural Resources Center near Madrid, which is accredited by the American Camping Association. Iowa State University Extension staff conduct the camps, with the help of professionals and students. Youth can register until five days before the camp begins.
