Golf Packages Featured in 4-H Auction

AMES, Iowa -- Fifteen golf packages, including four celebrity packages, and one golf vacation will be up for bid at the fourth annual "Going for the Green" 4-H benefit auction. The Iowa 4-H Foundation will host the July 24 auction.

The celebrity golf packages feature 18 holes of golf for the winning bidder and two friends plus one of the following local celebrities: Johnny Orr, former Iowa State University basketball coach; Tom Davis, former University of Iowa men's basketball coach; Bill Fennelly, ISU women's basketball coach; and Eric Toomey, ISU assistant men and women's golf coach. All other golf packages include greens fees and carts for four players.

Participating courses include Amana Colonies; Ames Golf and Country Club; Bos Landen, Pella; Briarwood, Ankeny; Brooks, Okoboji; Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; Finkbine, Iowa City; Geneva Golf and Country Club; Glen Oaks Country Club, West Des Moines; Glynns Creek, Davenport; Ottumwa Country Club; Spencer Golf and Country Club; Timber Line, Dubuque; TPC at Deere Run, Silvis, Ill.; and Veenker, Ames.

The golf vacation to be offered by the Iowa 4-H Foundation is a five-star golf package including six free rounds (54 holes) of golf at Ford's Colony Country Club and a 7-day, 7-night stay at Marriott's Manor Club in Williamsburg, Iowa. The two-bedroom villa is reserved May 25 through June 1, 2001. This vacation is valued at $2,550

The golf packages will be auctioned off at Wakonda Club in Des Moines. Bids will be accepted by phone until noon on July 24; bidders need not be present. Proceeds from the 4-H auction benefit the 121,000 Iowa youths served by the program. The 4-H auction is held in conjunction with the "Going for the Green" golf tournament at Wakonda.
