2/16/00 Contacts: Olson Joins Iowa Beef Center, ISU Extension AMES, Iowa -- Pete Olson has been appointed livestock/beef field specialist with Iowa State University Extension and has joined the Iowa Beef Center at ISU. Olson, who began his position with ISU Jan. 24, is housed in the Tama County Extension office in Toledo. He is responsible for the development and coordination of ISU Extension livestock education programs in Benton, Iowa, Jasper, Marshall, Poweshiek, Tama and Story counties. As a member of the Iowa Beef Center, Olson will provide a critical link to local cattle producers, according to John Lawrence, director of the center. "The field specialists are essential to our mission as on-site, problem-solving consultants who work directly with producers and allied industries," Lawrence said. "The Beef Center provides the specialists with resources to conduct applied research, field demonstrations, and education programs targeted to the needs of their clientele." Olson received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. His bachelor of science degree is in animal science. He received his master's degree in ruminant nutrition in 1996. Olson's work experience includes serving as a territory manager for Cargill Nutrena Animal Nutrition Division. He served as a livestock judging coach in graduate school and participated in livestock judging as an undergraduate student. |
