Youth Groups Encouraged To Apply For Iowa's Promise Grants

AMES, Iowa -- If you're a member of a 4-H club or other youth group and have a great idea for a community service project, consider applying for the "Iowa's Promise…Our Youth" grant. The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service, in cooperation with Iowa 4-H Youth Development, is offering grants up to $250 to qualifying groups. This is the third year for the partnership.

To be eligible, two or more local groups must cooperate in a community service or improvement project. One group must be a youth group such as a 4-H club, church group or school group. The applications must be completed by youth.

Applications and grant descriptions are available at your Iowa State University Extension county office. They also may be downloaded from the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service Web site: http://www.state.ia.us/ided/crd/icvs/. Grant applications are due March 1, 2001, in the State 4-H office, 33 Curtiss Hall, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa 50011. Projects must be completed by Dec. 15, 2001.
