ICN Program to Introduce Planned Hog Pricing Insurance Program
AMES, Iowa -- Swine producers who are interested in using insurance as a risk management strategy should attend the Iowa Communications Network program, "Hog Pricing Insurance: What's in it for Me?", on Monday, Jan. 15, 2001. The program, sponsored by Iowa Pork Industry Center, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension, Iowa Pork Producers Association and Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, will focus on a proposed hog pricing insurance program planned for availability in 2001.
ISU agricultural economist Bruce Babcock will explain the program purpose and procedures, as well as the levels and probable costs of coverage. ISU agricultural economist John Lawrence will present information on the Dec. 28, 2000 USDA Hogs and Pigs Report numbers, and will describe how producer income would have been affected if coverage had been available and in use over the past few years.
The program will run from 7-8:30 p.m. and originates from the ISU campus.
There is no cost to attend the program. The list of approved sites is as follows:
