Iowa State University Extension Receives Venture Award

DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa State University Extension received a special Distinguished Leadership Venture Award at the 2000 Iowa Venture Awards held Nov. 30 in Des Moines. The award was presented by the Iowa Area Development Group (IADG), a consortium of rural electric cooperatives and municipal utilities working to expand economic opportunities within the state.

The Distinguished Leadership Venture Award was presented to Iowa State University Extension for the valuable leadership and resourcefulness that ISU Extension has provided to Iowa farmers, small businesses and Iowa communities. "It is abundantly clear that Iowa State University and ISU Extension are committed to building partnerships that will lead to a better quality of life for all Iowans," said Rand M. Fisher, president of IADG.

In addition to the Iowa State University Extension Service being recognized for the Distinguished Leadership Venture Award, Rosenboom Machine and Tool, Spirit Lake, was named the 2000 Iowa Outstanding Business of the Year in recognition of its contribution to Iowa's economic strength. West Liberty Foods, West Liberty, was the recipient of the Value-Added Agriculture Venture Award in recognition of their visionary leadership and significant contributions to value-added agriculture. "This is the thirteenth year we have recognized Iowa businesses for providing jobs, investment and leadership to local economies," said Fisher, who presented the awards along with the Iowa Department of Economic Development Director C.
