Lamb Classic Results Announced

AMES, Iowa -- The 2000 Lamb Performance Classic saw increased participation with more than 150 lambs competing in three divisions. The Classic combines lamb growth at the central test, carcass merit and live score in an overall score for the competition, according to Dan Morrical, Iowa State University Extension sheep specialist.

In the 4-H division the overall champion was exhibited by Greg Dolmage from Victor, Iowa. Greg's lamb was the high gaining lamb on test at 1.25 pounds per day. The 146 lb. lamb also was a purple on the live show and received 37.6 of 40 points for carcass merit. Reserve Champion in the 4-H division was shown by Matt Plueger of Monticello. Matt's lamb gained 1.18 lb. per day, scored 19 out of 20 for a live score and 36.9 out of 40 for carcass points.

In the FFA division Mike Musselman from Newell exhibited the overall champion on a lamb that gained .85 lb. per day and scored 19 on live score and 39.4 on carcass merit. The Reserve FFA lamb was exhibited by Casey Hocraffer of Clarion. Casey's lamb gained .99 lb.and scored 37.1 on carcass points and 15 on live score.
