Spaces Still Available in New Component Of Youth Conference

AMES, Iowa -- Spaces are still available in the "Touch the Land" segment of the 2000 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, to be held June 20-22 at Iowa State University.

"Touch the Land" is a new environmental component of the conference that will be led by faculty and specialists in landscape architecture, animal ecology, forestry, 4-H youth development, and agriculture and natural resources.

"We encourage youth who are interested in the environment to register and participate in this component of the conference," said Wendy Brock, 4-H Youth Development specialist. "They will not only experience and develop an appreciation of the environment through interactive workshops, but also will receive an $80 scholarship toward their conference expenses."

The "Touch the Land" participants will stay in the ISU residence halls with other youth from the Iowa Youth 4-H Conference and the animal science Roundup. Many of the meals and social events will be held in conjunction with these teens, but the "Touch the Land" participants will attend different workshops and complete an environmental community service project.

For more information or a registration packet, contact your local county extension office. The registration deadline for this event is May 15.
