9/27/99 Contacts: Pork Producers Invited to Oct. 5 ICN Program AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) at Iowa State University invites pork producers to a Tuesday, Oct. 5, Iowa Communications Network (ICN) program featuring information on hog market trends and an explanation of retail margin and why margins are critical to the entire industry. Mark McQuistan, vice president of marketing and purchasing for Perishable Distributors of Iowa (PDI), will speak on the margin and other issues related to "Retail pork marketing in the 'real' world." John Lawrence, ISU Extension agricultural economist, will provide an update on the Sept. 24 USDA Hogs and Pigs Report, including possible trends and significance of the numbers in the report. Time for questions and discussion will be provided. The program will run from 8-9:30 p.m. and originates from the Iowa State University campus. There is no cost to attend the program.
