9/1/99 Contacts: New Publication on Reducing Pesticide Use AMES, Iowa -- A new Iowa State University Extension publication called "Eight Ways to Reduce Pesticide Use" explains some of the proven methods being used by Iowa farmers to manage pests, reduce chemical inputs and significantly improve profit margins in corn and soybean production. "Eight Ways to Reduce Pesticide Use" provides details on reducing soil insecticide rates, rotating crops for pest and weed management, scouting, herbicide banding, mechanical weed control, planting date delay and spot spraying. All of these methods have the added benefit of protecting water quality. This publication represents the combined efforts of Iowa farmers and ISU Extension through the Integrated Pest Management, Sustainable Agriculture and Pest Management and the Environment programs.
