New Extension Publication Addresses Aflatoxins in Corn

AMES, Iowa -- Aflatoxins in Iowa corn can cause major problems for producers, occasionally reaching levels that make the grain useless as food or feed. A new Iowa State University Extension publication called "Aflatoxins in Corn" discusses issues related to the mold fungi that produce aflatoxins.

"Aflatoxins in Corn" outlines how to prepare a corn grain sample for aflatoxin testing and describes currently used methods for analyzing samples. Practices that can help to reduce aflatoxin production in grain are suggested, along with potential uses for alfatoxin-contaminated grain.

This publication is available on the Internet at www.extension.iastate.edu/Pages/pubs/cr.htm or you may order a copy of this 4-page color publication from the ISU Extension Distribution Center, 119 Printing and Publications Bldg., ISU, Ames, Iowa 50011-3171, phone 515-294-5247. Ask for PM 1800. A single copy is free; additional copies are 25 cents each.
