Des Moines Hosts the North Central Branch Meeting of the Entomological Society of America

AMES, Iowa -- The 54th Annual Meeting of the North Central Branch of the Entomological Society of America will be held at the Des Moines Marriott Hotel on March 28-31, 1999. Come join us to learn about new and ongoing research and extension projects on insects.

This year's meeting will be highlighted by symposia on "Evaluating options for managing insect resistance to transgenic corn hybrids" and "Biologically based insect pest management agents." Ten additional symposia also are planned on topics ranging from the history of entomology in the North Central Region to biodiversity and management of prairie insects. The general public is invited to attend the Insect Photo Salon Sunday evening, March 28, at 5 p.m. and again on Monday night, March 29, at 7 p.m.

"The Photo Salon is an entertaining exhibit of insect slides submitted by Society members and nature photographers from across the region," said Lewis. It is approved by the Photographic Society of America and entries count for Who's Who and Star Ratings.

The Entomological Society of America is the largest organization in the world serving the professional and scientific needs of entomologists and people in related disciplines. Founded in 1889, the society today has more than 7,400 members made up of educators, extension personnel, consultants, students, and scientists from health agencies, private industries, colleges and universities and state and federal government agencies. The North Central Branch serves the needs of members in 14 midwestern states.

For further information, please contact Donald Lewis, local arrangements chair, Iowa State University, Ames, IA, (515) 294-1101. Additional information can be obtained during the meeting by contacting Donald Lewis; Bill Hutchison, program chair; or Ted Radcliffe, branch president.
