1/20/99 Contacts: Workshop Trains New Judges For 4-H Fairs If you like to help youth learn and listen to how they met their goals developing a 4-H exhibit, plan to attend training for 4-H judges March 6 or 13. "We especially welcome those who are new to 4-H judging. We need more adults who can support youth in this way," said Shirley Stakey, program specialist for Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. Current judges, ISU Extension staff and others interested in working with youth and fairs also are encouraged to attend. Five locations will host the March 6 training from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They are Ames, Britt, Lewis, Ottumwa, Storm Lake and Williamsburg. On March 13 the 4-H Judges Training Workshop will be held in Fayette, also from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Topics for the workshop are communication, consumer and management, food and nutrition, mechanics and engineering, personal development, science and technology, visual art and woodworking. Participants can choose to attend three of the topics from concurrent sessions. Registration is due Feb. 10 to the State 4-H Youth Development Office. For more information, contact a local county ISU Extension office, the State 4-H Youth Development Office, 32 Curtiss Hall, Ames, IA 50014, or phone them at (515) 294-1519 or (515) 294-1531, or e-mail x1knight@exnet.iastate.edu or x1stakey@exnet.iastate.edu. ml: iprint |
