1/8/99 Contacts: Manure Nutrient Management Workshops Set AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University Extension will again be offering Manure Nutrient Management Workshops beginning in January. The workshops are designed to assist producers in developing a plan for properly applying manure as a nutrient resource and minimizing environmental impacts from over-fertilization, according to Angela Rieck-Hinz, ISU Extension agronomist. "The workshops focus on your farm. You will develop a working manure management plan for your fields from this information. Some of these workshops are held in conjunction with the Pork Producer's Environmental Assurance Program. Please contact your local ISU Extension county office for a list of meetings in your county," she said. These workshops are not intended to provide a manure management plan that may need to be filed with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) if producers meet certain operation size requirements, according to Rieck-Hinz. However, these plans will teach producers the basics of manure management planning that may help them in develop state-required manure management plans. Producers who need assistance with a manure management plan that has to filed with the DNR, can contact their local ISU Extension county office for a list of local resource people. ml: imajor, isufarm |
