FORT DODGE, Iowa - Pork producers in north central Iowa are invited to attend the program, "Pork Issues '99." The March 4 event begins at 9 a.m. with registration and will adjourn about 3:30 p.m. It will be held at the Starlite Village in Fort Dodge, located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 169 and Iowa Highway 7. It is sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and the Iowa Pork Industry Center.

Speakers are attorneys Steve Moline and Steve Reno of the farm division in the Iowa Attorney General's office, ISU Extension agricultural economist John Lawrence, Norwest Ag Credit regional manager Tom Ricke, Iowa Select Farms production director Gary Dial and Iowa deputy secretary of agriculture Brent Hallings.

Lawrence will present possible strategies for producers who want to remain in business. Ricke will explain lender guidelines and how to access capital. Dial will offer personal experience and insight into the competitive nature of today's pork industry, and Hallings will provide an update on the state's livestock task force and the continuing process of keeping value-added pork production in Iowa.
