8/27/99 Contacts: 4-H'ers Win Premier Exhibitor Scholarships DES MOINES--4-H'ers were awarded scholarships for placing in the beef, swine and sheep Premier Exhibitor competitions at the Iowa State Fair. Participants in the Premier Exhibitor program complete a quiz, a series of skill stations and an interview focused on the future of the industry. They also receive a score for showmanship and live animal placing. The program is sponsored by Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development, the Iowa Foundation For Agricultural Advancement and Farm Bureau Financial Services. Denise Schwab, ISU Extension 4-H Youth Development specialist, said the program started in 1998 for beef project members and was expanded this year to include swine and sheep. 4-H'ers who have completed their junior or senior year in high school are eligible to compete for scholarships. Placings in the beef competition were as follows: Nathan Ruby of Lakota, $1,250; Noll Ernst of Madison County, $750; and Ben Danner of Muscatine, $500. Placings in the swine program were: Brice Conover of Baxter, $1,250; Adam Rouse of Huxley, $750; and Bart Weldon of Slater, $500. Placings in the sheep competition were: Stephanie Danner of Muscatine, $1,250; Michael Lash of Wayne County, $750; and Daniel Butler of Grundy County, $500.
