10/5/98 Contacts: CENTRAL REGION WOODLAND STEWARDSHIP CONFERENCE TO BE HELD AMES, Iowa -- The first Central Region Woodland Stewardship Conference involving Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21. The conference will take place at the Lied Conference Center on the Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City, Nebraska. The educational program has been designed to help owners of woodlands or other natural resource areas increase the value and utility of their property and help them meet their unique personal goals and objectives, according to Dean Prestemon, Iowa State University Extension forester. "Whether you own 10 or 1,000 acres, the practical information provided should be very useful to you." Seventeen knowledgeable professionals from the four cooperating states will be on hand to present information on topics ranging from growing wildflowers to pruning trees to handling pest problems to marketing timber. After attending an opening general session, the participants will have a choice of three topics in each of five workshop sessions. The program will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. "Opportunity will be provided during the lunch hour and at the end of the conference for visiting with service foresters from Iowa and other states to get your specific questions answered," said Prestemon. The registration fee is $25 per person, for those who register by Nov. 16. The fee covers all support materials, lunch and break refreshments. As the host state, Nebraska is handling registration from all states. The Lied Conference Center at the Arbor Day Farm provides a very interesting, unique site for this educational program. Registration is limited to a maximum of 250 people. Request a copy of the program for the Central Region Woodland Stewardship Conference from your extension county office, county conservation board or local Natural Resources Conservation Service in southwest Iowa.
