Website Available for Crop Yield Reports

AMES, Iowa -- Instead of waiting for crop yield reports to be printed, now they can be viewed on the World Wide Web. The North Central Crop Evaluation Committee has developed a website to access crop yield report information for 12 midwestern states, including Iowa.

The site at www.ksu.edu/kscpt/nccec/ is maintained by Kansas State University and provides links to agricultural crop variety testing information from several states. It is a project of the North Central Crop Evaluation Committee (NCCEC) and is intended to assist farmers, seed marketers, researchers, crop consultants and others with an interest in identifying superior crop hybrids and varieties, according to Ken Ziegler, Iowa State University agronomist. "The NCCEC does this by making available a large resource of impartial performance information for most of the crop hybrids and varieties marketed in the region," he said.

Iowa crop performance information is provided to the NCCEC through the Iowa Crop Improvement Association (ICIA). The ICIA has offered a crop performance testing program since 1920. This program offers impartial, third party information to Iowa growers about commercial seed available for them to grow and an early glance at the performance of experimental hybrids and varieties. Information on the adaptation and performance of hybrids and varieties is currently offered for alfalfa, barley, corn, oat, soybean, and wheat, according to Ziegler.
