11/16/98 Contacts: Teens Apply for First Iowa Youth Technology Corps High school freshmen, sophomores and juniors will make up the first Iowa Youth Technology Corps. Teens on the tech corps will learn marketable skills, develop a community service project using technology, experience cutting-edge technology including virtual reality at Iowa State University and help develop technology training for other youth. "We are very excited about the opportunity to form a new statewide corps of teens interested in information technology," said Jodi Mills, youth initiative specialist for ISU Extension--Science, Engineering and Technology, a part of 4-H Youth Development. The 17 teens on the tech corps will
offer a mix of interests and abilities in the following
areas: art, computers, web page design, photography,
presentations, video and animation. Non4-H'ers and Teen applicants need easy access to a computer, the Internet and e-mail. Applications are being accepted now for review in January. Information on this leadership group is available at every ISU Extension county office. Call and ask for the Iowa Youth Technology Corps application information and brochure. Or call Mills at (515) 294-2078. Extension programs are available to all without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age or disability. ml: idaily, radio |
