ICN Program Offers Information,
Options to Producers
AMES, Iowa - Iowa's pork producers are
facing short-term crisis management at a time with low
market prices and abundant supply. As they work to position
their operations within an increasingly complex and
integrated industry and market environment, producers look
for reliable, timely and accurate information on a variety
of issues.
The Iowa Pork Industry Center, Iowa
State University Extension and the Iowa Pork Producers
Association will sponsor an ICN program to help producers
gain a greater knowledge of factors influencing today's pork
industry and its future. The program will be held Dec. 14,
from 7-9 p.m., originating from the Brenton Center in
Curtiss Hall on the ISU campus. Producers can attend any of
the 50 sites around the state.
The program will be divided into four
parts, with ample time for questions and answers following
each. ISU ag economist John Lawrence will present
information on a very focused look at the near term,
including available contract data. In the second segment,
ISU ag economist Robert Jolly will talk about cash
management, short term debt and managing margins. IPIC
associate director and ISU Extension veterinarian James
McKean and ISU Extension swine specialist Tom Baas will
offer options on near term enterprise management
considerations in the third portion of the program. The
fourth segment will focus on management assistance programs,
including discussion among those attending at local sites
and with the origination site speakers.
The program is free and there is no
registration. The list of sites follows:
