From July 1990 to July 2006, Lynette served as the communications specialist for continuing and distance education for ISU Extension.  Prior to that, she worked as business and advertising manager for the Iowa State Daily and worked for the U. S. Bureau of the Census.

Lynette is a Master Gardener with more than 500 hours of community service including five years as the 4-H Vegetable Garden superintendent for the Story County Fair.

Lynette has a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Journalism from Iowa State University plus 22 post-baccalaureate credits in computer science, statistics, accounting, and horticulture.
