Pavlik received his B.S. in advertising design in 1969 from Iowa State University and spent four years in the U.S. Navy. After military service, he studied at Drake University and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1980. Dave taught several courses in the Art Department of the Design College at Iowa State during the early 1980s.
