AMES, Iowa – Even a bridge closure can’t keep kids from summer camp fun at the Iowa 4-H Center near Madrid.
Iowa 17 is closed between Granger and Madrid, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Des Moines construction office. The closure will be in place to allow crews to replace the deck on the Des Moines River bridge. Iowa 17 traffic is detoured using Iowa 210 and Iowa 141. The closure and detour are expected to be in place until the end of August.
Parents should reroute accordingly when bringing their children to camp at the Iowa 4-H Center, said Abbie Parker, Iowa State University Extension program specialist at the center. The Iowa 4-H Center is northwest of Madrid on Peach Avenue, accessible from County Road E-57. Maps and driving directions are available from the center’s website, www.iowa4hcamp.com.
Registration continues for summer camps at the Iowa 4-H Center, Parker said. This year the center will host hundreds of kids in 29 different camps; eight of them are new for the 2010 season.
At the Iowa 4-H Center, campers enjoy a traditional camp experience with fun and safety as the top priorities. Since 1954, the Iowa 4-H Center has earned the distinction of being an American Camp Association accredited camp.
