April Brings Paper Clovers to Support Iowa 4-H

Paper 4-H clover promotion

AMES, Iowa – Paper clovers will be sprouting throughout the state in April to support the Iowa 4-H program. VF Outlet stores in Story City and Williamsburg and Tractor Supply Company (TSC) stores throughout Iowa are participating in the National 4-H Paper Clover Campaign, an in-store fundraising effort to support state and local Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development programs.

Shoppers at the two companies will have the opportunity to support local 4-H youth by purchasing paper clovers for $1 at checkout, explained Shelly Greving with the Iowa 4-H Foundation. All funds raised will be donated to 4-H, and will support camps, after-school programs and other 4-H youth development program activities.

Sixty percent of the funds raised will be designated for the county in which the particular store is located, Greving said. Ten percent will go to the Iowa 4-H Foundation for statewide use, and 30 percent will be sent to the National 4-H Council to cover implementation costs of the National 4-H Paper Clover Campaign.

TSC stores began the program March 26 and will continue through Sunday, April 18. Stores are located in Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Fairfield, Mason City, Newton, Ottumwa, Sioux City and Waterloo.

“Many of our stores have been involved with 4-H clubs for years. Now, Tractor Supply Company is proud to have an official chain-wide relationship with 4-H,” said Tractor Supply Company Chairman and CEO Jim Wright.  “For us, this is an outstanding way to support our current and future customers and future team members, and it’s a way to give back to the 900-plus unique communities we serve.”

The two VF Outlet stores will begin the Paper Clover Campaign Thursday, April 1, continuing through Friday, April 30, Greving said. In addition, customers can participate in the VF Outlet Jeans Trade-in Event and receive 20 percent off of a single item by donating any pair of jeans to either store. The jeans will be used in the 4-H “Stitch This!” fashion design competition during the 2010 Iowa State Fair.

“One of VF Outlet’s commitments is to invest in the communities that invest in us, and there’s no better way to do that than to support the development and leadership potential of our youth,” said Steve Fritz, president of VF Outlet Inc.  “4-H is a richly rooted organization that we’re proud to support.”

Greving said, “It’s exciting to partner with National 4-H, Tractor Supply Company and VF Outlet Inc. to make a huge impact for 4-H at the local level. This kind of support helps our local 4-H clubs continue thriving, producing Iowa’s and America’s next generation of great leaders. 4-H provides opportunities for youth to participate in activities that will, in turn, help them make positive contributions and become strong, confident adults.”
