INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Local agricultural producers currently involved in direct marketing or looking to market their vegetable produce, meat products and/or fruit production may attend their choice of three direct food marketing workshops. The March workshops will cover modern outlets for selling agricultural products and best practices, as well as maximizing profits.
Iowa State University Extension and South Central Iowa Area Partnership (SCIAP) are sponsoring Direct Food Marketing Workshops Thursday, March 18, at 1 p.m. at the ISU Extension Warren County office in Indianola and at 7 p.m. at the ISU Extension Union County office in Creston, and Friday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at the ISU Extension Lucas County office in Chariton. Each workshop is scheduled to last two hours.
ISU Extension program specialist Craig Chase will be the keynote presenter and discuss pricing for profit and evaluating market outlets. Chase has worked with numerous local foods systems groups and producers looking at direct-to-consumer sales opportunities. He specializes in direct farm and institutional marketing of food crops, new business startups, production and financial record keeping and analysis. He also has expertise in organic agriculture. This special opportunity to hear Chase locally was made possible partially from a grant from SCIAP.
SCIAP is a six-county regional economic development group consisting of local Economic Development and Farm Bureau leaders. The SCIAP ag committee is working with local producers and consumers on local foods projects. Joe Sellers (email@example.com) and Troy Wheeler (firstname.lastname@example.org) are the co-chairs of the SCIAP ag committee.
A $10.00 fee to attend this workshop covers meeting, materials and travel expenses, and is payable at the door. The fees for service will be used to offset direct expenses and to support the Agriculture and Natural Resources County Extension Program.
To pre-register, call the Warren, Union or Lucas County ISU Extension office, or send an e-mail to Joe Sellers, ISU Extension beef program specialist, email@example.com or call him at (641) 203-1270.
