ISU Extension Advances Economic Development Throughout Iowa - Region 4

3/8/2010

AMES, Iowa -- Throughout Iowa, ISU Extension supports economic growth and works to improve quality of life by encouraging business development, helping to create jobs and expanding entrepreneurial activity, according to Jack Payne, vice president for extension and outreach.

Brenda Ranum, regional extension education director in Region 4, said examples of projects that are having an economic impact in this area include the Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative, which has obtained grant funds for several projects in Allamakee, Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette, Howard and Winneshiek counties.

ISU Extension also has helped area communities obtain Iowa Living Roadway trust fund grants for community improvement projects, including a $4,670 grant for planning a streetscaping project in downtown Oelwein.
