ISU Extension Advances Economic Development Throughout Iowa - Region 3

3/8/2010

AMES, Iowa -- Throughout Iowa, ISU Extension supports economic growth and works to improve quality of life by encouraging business development, helping to create jobs and expanding entrepreneurial activity, according to Jack Payne, vice president for extension and outreach.

Gary Hall, regional extension education director in Region 3, said examples of projects that are having an economic impact in this area include several Homeward Housing Trust Fund activities where one-on-one consultations and program development assistance have helped the regional trust fund get established.

ISU Extension also has shown that for every $1 spent on the Strengthening Families Program for Parents and Youth ages 10-14 program, $9.60 has been saved in all aspects of dealing with teen substance abuse. There is a lower need for the court system and drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.
