Cow-calf Producers Invited to Reproduction Symposium

7/13/2010

AMES, Iowa — As input costs continue to rise, cow-calf producers seek ways to maximize economic and production efficiencies in their operations. Garland Dahlke, of the Iowa Beef Center (IBC) at Iowa State University (ISU), said producers should consider attending the "2010 Applied Reproductive Strategies in Beef Cattle" symposium next month.

“This symposium offers a wealth of information presented by people who are experts in their respective fields,” he said. “From improving herd productivity and decreasing costs, to learning how to improve overall reproductive management skills, speakers will provide knowledge and guidance necessary in today’s industry.”

Dahlke, who also is an ISU representative on the Beef Reproduction Task Force that is cosponsoring the symposium, said the Aug. 5-6 event will be held in Nashville, Tenn. It’s organized by topic areas with several shorter sessions under each topic. The fee for those preregistered by July 22 is $150 per person, which includes several meals and refreshment breaks, CD copy of the proceedings and access to all presentations and the event trade show. Early registration for students is $75 per person, and all registrations after July 22 will be $200.

More information, including a link to the registration brochure, is available at http://westcentral.unl.edu/beefrepro/. Iowa producers can contact Dahlke by e-mail at garland@iastate.edu or by phone at 515-294-9910.

The symposium is sponsored by the University of Tennessee and the Beef Reproduction Task Force which comprises extension animal scientists from ISU, Kansas State University, University of Nebraska, South Dakota State University, University of Idaho, University of Illinois, University of Florida and University of Missouri, with support from other industry sponsors.

IBC was established in 1996 with the goal of supporting the growth and vitality of the state’s beef cattle industry. It comprises faculty and staff from ISU Extension, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and College of Veterinary Medicine, and works to develop and deliver the latest research-based information regarding the beef cattle industry.
