Combined Courses Begin Feb. 13 -- Family Development Certification Training and Partnering with Parents

1/26/2010

AMES, Iowa — Students and professionals alike have an opportunity to make maximum use of their time with combined courses presented by Iowa State University Extension. Family Development Certification Training (FDCT) and Partnering with Parents (PWP) will be offered beginning Feb. 23 in 13 combined sessions

The combined courses focus on core competencies identified for family support workers, including those needed for parenting education, said Cheryl Clark, an ISU Extension family life program specialist.

“For those who need the two certificates, it is an efficient way to get them both done quickly,” Clark said.

Participants can decide if they want to attend both Partnering with Parents and Family Development Certification Training, or choose one or the other. They attend on the days pertaining to the particular training they want, explained course coordinator Kim Greder.

“Parenting issues always come up when working with families,” said Clark. “The two courses offered together allow for great discussion and expanded understanding.”

She added, “The courses offer facilitators with a variety of backgrounds, which allows participants a wide variety of experiences and perspectives.”
