Military Family Appreciation Day Is May 8 at Terrace Hill
AMES, Iowa – Iowa will offer thanks to the state’s service members and their families during Military Family Appreciation Day, a special event May 8 at the governor’s mansion.
“This event provides a fun opportunity for all military families to do things together and store up memories. That’s especially important for the families who soon will be separated by deployment,” said Chris Gleason, Operation: Military Kids (OMK) project director with Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. “It also is an opportunity to show community and state support for all military families and the sacrifices they make.”
Military Family Appreciation Day activities will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 at Terrace Hill, 2300 Grand Ave., Des Moines. Families are invited to meet Gov. Chet Culver, First Lady Mari Culver, Lt. Gov. Patty Judge and John Judge, USMC, as well as tour the governor’s mansion. The event will include food, family entertainment and activities such as planting flowers for Mother’s Day and making robots or rockets. Military families interested in attending should contact Victoria Schmidt, Operation: Military Kids program coordinator, by May 5 at email@example.com or 641-584-2261.
