Extension Names Director of Field Operations
AMES, Iowa -- Sherry Glenn has been named director of field operations for Iowa State University Extension. Jack Payne, vice president for ISU Extension and Outreach, says this appointment moves Extension’s restructuring plan forward, repurposing extension methods while maintaining the mission.
“Sherry Glenn brings a rich background in state and national extension leadership to this position,” said Payne. “As director of field operations she will work closely with the new regional directors to ensure educational programming is maintained at county levels across the state. She is very familiar with ISU Extension field operations from her previous experiences and has relationships that will strengthen the work of ISU Extension.”
Glenn has served as the central area extension education director since 1991; this position was eliminated by the restructuring plan. She served as the interim associate to the vice provost for ISU Extension in 2002-03. Glenn also has given leadership to national extension efforts as a Ralph L. Tabor Extension Fellow from 2004-07 and as a member of the National Review Team for CSREES.
The director of field operations position was created as part of ISU Extension’s restructuring plan that consolidates field administration and encourages investment in program services -- moving ISU Extension from a geographically based structure to an issue-based model. This model reduces administrative costs, increases local control of county funds allocated for ISU Extension services, and increases research and staff engagement across university disciplines in order to address complex issues important to Iowans.
Glenn will begin her responsibilities as director of field operations on June 1. She will be directly involved in helping select the new regional extension education directors. County and area directors currently are applying and interviewing for these 20 positions created by ISU Extension’s restructuring plan.
