AMES, Iowa – Iowa 4-H supporters have until July 1 to apply for specialty 4-H license plates through the Iowa 4-H Foundation.

The foundation must receive 500 pre-paid applications by July 1 for the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) to issue the specialty plates, said Shelly Greving, the foundation’s marketing coordinator.

“We’ve been collecting applications for several months, but we still have a ways to go to reach 500,” Greving said. 

Numbered plates are available for a $35 initial fee plus $10 annually to the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Personalized plates are available for a $60 initial fee plus $15 annually. Fees for the 4-H plates are in addition to the regular motor vehicle registration fees paid annually to county treasurers.

To order the plates, go to www.iowa4hfoundation.org and download a license plate application. Complete the application and return it with the required fee to the Iowa 4-H Foundation. The foundation will submit all applications at once to the Iowa DOT.

The funds raised from the initial and annual fees will support Iowa 4-H Youth Development, including club programs, state and national 4-H conferences, National 4-H Congress and the Iowa 4-H Center, Greving said.
