Louisa County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa – A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Louisa County 4-H member. Elyssa McFarland, Columbus Junction, has received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agriculture Advancement.

McFarland, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Tom and Chris McFarland. She has been involved in the food and nutrition and sewing project areas and has received state recognition for poultry showmanship and a fashion review project. McFarland also has received meat goat showmanship and herdsmanship honors at the local level while serving as club president and vice president.

“4-H has fueled my interest in agriculture and taught me to be patient and work hard,” she said.

A freshman at Iowa State University, McFarland is majoring in agronomy.
