Linn County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa – A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Linn County 4-H member. Kimberly Jordan, Marion, has received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agriculture Advancement.

Jordan, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Jeffry and Marcia Jordan. She has been involved in the goat, food and nutrition and clothing project areas and has received a citizenship project award, a seal of excellence in communications and swine showmanship honors, all at the state level. She also has received the Danforth “I Dare You,” livestock achievement, agriculture and achievement awards at the local level while serving as club president. A county 4-H council and county youth committee member, Jordan has attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“My involvement in 4-H has helped me discover my true passion for agriculture. Growing up on a farm has greatly impacted my decisions, but being active in a program that brings together rural and urban students has show me the importance of agriculture in our world today,” she said. “I have also learned how to set goals and then go out and achieve them, which has prepared me for the future.”

A recent graduate of Linn-Mar High School, Jordan plans to attend Iowa State University to major in horticulture.

In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
