Boone County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Boone County 4-H member. Andrew Heineman, Ogden, has received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agriculture Advancement.
Heineman, a nine-year member, is the son of Paul and Mari Lynn Heineman. He has been involved in the beef and citizenship project areas and received state recognition for welding, aerospace, swine and woodworking projects. He also has served as a county and area 4-H council member and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“4-H has given me opportunities to do things I would not have normally done. I have learned new skills in all of my project areas, gained confidence in public speaking, become a better leader and learned the importance of giving back to my community,” he said. “4-H has also impacted my career choice. It has proven to me that I have a passion for agriculture. The skills I’ve learned and experiences I’ve had as a 4-H’er will help me as I work towards my ultimate career goal of returning to our family farming operation.”
Heineman is recent graduate of Ogden Community High School and plans to attend Iowa State University to major in agricultural studies or agricultural business.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
