Louisa County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Louisa County 4-H member. Sandra Dion, Columbus Junction, has received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agriculture Advancement.
Dion, a nine-year member, is the daughter of John and Donna Dion. She has been involved in the rabbit and swine project areas and has received reserve champion meat goat showmanship honors at the state fair. She also has been a nominee for the premier exhibitor award at the Louisa County Fair and has served on her county 4-H council and county youth committee.
“Through 4-H I have learned skills such as responsibility and gained a hard work ethic,” said Dion. “4-H also has sparked my interest in agriculture by letting me explore the field and helping me decide that I wanted a career in it.”
A freshman at Iowa State University, Dion is majoring in agriculture business.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
