Franklin County 4-H’er Receives Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Franklin County 4-H member.  Samantha Schermer, Latimer, has received a Pioneer Community College 4-H scholarship, sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc.

Schermer, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Brad and KaRene Schermer. She has been involved in the pets, photography, beef and horse and pony project areas and has attended the intermediate trip and the senior Chicago trip at the local level. She also has held the positions of club president and vice president, been a member of her county 4-H council and county youth committee and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“Being in 4-H has helped me to prepare for my future by teaching me how to keep records on my cattle herd.” said Schermer. “I believe getting involved in 4-H can and will help a person learn how to communicate, become a leader and meet friends for life.”

A recent graduate of CAL Community High School, Schermer plans to attend North Iowa Area Community College in agricultural livestock management.

In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames.  For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
