AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Jones County 4-H member.  Cody Dirks, Wyoming, has received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc.

Dirks, a nine-year member, is the son of Steve and Cindy Dirks. He has been involved in the beef, welding, woodworking and natural resources project areas and has received a local senior achievement award. He also has held the position of vice president in his club and been a member of his county 4-H council.

“4-H has taught me the importance of goal setting,” said Dirks. “While working towards my goals I have learned how to accomplish my tasks effectively and efficiently.”

A recent graduate of Midland High School, Dirks plans to attend Kirkwood Community College for animal science.

In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames.  For more information about 4-H, how to get involved, or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
