Fayette County 4-H’er Receives Wolken 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Fayette County 4-H member. Emily Schmitt, Hawkeye, has received the Wolken 4-H scholarship sponsored by Stephen and Sue Wolken.
Schmitt, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Steve and Connie Schmitt. She was involved in the communications, visual arts, home improvement and leadership project areas and received state fair recognition. She also participated in the state and national 4-H dairy quiz bowls and attended the National 4-H Congress and Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. A county, area and state 4-H council member, Schmitt also served as club president and vice president and as a county extension summer program assistant.
“My 4-H experiences have taught me the importance of leadership and citizenship in my community,” said Schmitt. “They have allowed me to explore my interests and have supplemented my classroom learning.”
A Wartburg College sophomore, Schmitt is majoring in communication arts with an emphasis in public relations and has been involved on campus in a variety of publications, student senate, the homecoming steering committee, dance team, dance marathon and as an orientation leader.
