Benton County 4-H Member Receives Theisen 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Benton County 4-H member. Ellen Franzenburg, Van Horne, has received a Theisen Home Farm Auto 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Theisen Supply Inc.
Franzenburg, an eight-year member, is the daughter of Eric and Ann Franzenburg. She has been involved in the photography, food and nutrition, home improvement, clothing and visual arts project areas and has exhibited projects at the state fair and received a seal of excellence for an educational presentation. An “I Dare You!” National Leadership Award recipient, Franzenburg also has served as club vice-president and received the Farmer’s Savings and Bank Award.
“4-H gave me the chance to grow in my leadership and communication skills by providing the opportunity to give speeches and hold an office,” she said. “I also learned practical skills that aren’t taught in school through 4-H, such as how to run a business meeting. It gave me the opportunity to learn a lot about agriculture and also helped me cultivate my problem-solving and goal-setting skills.”
A recent graduate of Benton Community High School, Franzenburg plans to attend Iowa State University and major in agricultural engineering.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
