Hamilton County 4-H’er Receives Schulte Scholarship

AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Hamilton County 4-H member.  Jessica Stakey, Kamrar, has received the Schulte 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Florine and Ron Swanson in honor of Sylvia Brockschink Schulte.

Stakey, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Doran and Cathy Stakey. She has been involved in the citizenship, leadership, visual arts and communications project areas and has been awarded a state dog project award. She also has attended the Citizenship-Washington Focus and Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, served as club president and been a county 4-H council and county youth committee member.

“4-H has taught me communication skills and has given me the confidence to speak in front of groups with poise,” said Stakey.  “I am more confident instructing a group whether it be at school, my local 4-H club or at county council.”

A recent graduate of South Hamilton High School, Stakey plans to enroll at the University of Northern Iowa in elementary education.

In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of the Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames.  For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
