AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Hardin County 4-H member. Laura Jo Daniels, Eldora, has received the Cheryl and David Pence Visual Arts 4-H scholarship sponsored by Cheryl and David Pence.
Daniels, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Larry and Peggy Daniels. She has been involved in the food and nutrition, citizenship and leadership project areas and has received a state dog project award and been recognized for exhibiting one of the top-five visual arts projects at the Iowa State Fair. Daniels has also served as her county 4-H council’s president and attended the Citizenship-Washington Focus and Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“My 4-H experience has given me more confidence to try new things, and I have taken on leadership roles as a Clover Kids leader and county council officer,” said Daniels. “Each project area I was involved in has taught me new skills and encouraged me to plan, set goals, work toward my goals to achieve the end results I would like.”
A recent graduate of South Hardin High School, Daniels plans to attend Iowa State University for animal science.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of the Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
