West Pottawatamie County 4-H Member Receives Obrecht 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a West Pottawatamie County 4-H member. Stephanie Wells, Glenwood, has received the Lloyd W. and Myrtle Obrecht 4-H Scholarship sponsored by LaVerne and Pam Obrecht.

Wells, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Arthur and Kimberley Wells. She was involved in the beef, rabbit, photography, visual arts and home improvement project areas and was recognized as the first runner up in the Westfair queen contest and the 2007 4-H'er of the Year on the local level. A county 4-H council and county youth committee member, Wells served as club president, was a camera corps participant and state fair Share the Fun qualifier and received state recognition for visual arts and photography projects. She also has attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“4-H helped make me more aware of the many great opportunities that agriculture has to offer and gave me the confidence to pursue them,” she said.

A junior at Iowa State University, Wells is majoring in animal science/pre-veterinary medicine and is active on campus in the Pre-Vet Club, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Polar Bear Plunge, Dance Marathon and the Honors Program.

In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
