Linn County 4-H Member Receives Lloyd Inc. 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Linn County 4-H member. Allison Hannen, Central City, has received a Lloyd Inc. 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Lloyd Inc.
Hannen, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Steve and Rosie Hannen, Alburnett. She was involved in the sheep, horse and photography project areas and received the 4-H spirit, champion dog obedience and horticulture vegetable award at the local level along with a state fair photography award. Hannen also was a county council member.
“The experiences that I had in 4-H played a major role in shaping the person that I am today and gave me knowledge and skills that will assist me throughout life,” she said. “4-H has taught me the importance of serving others, volunteering and striving for excellence in any type of undertaking. It also helped me discover my passion for working with animals which led to my decision to become a veterinarian and has motivated me as an undergraduate.”
At Iowa State University, Hannen majored in agricultural biochemistry and has been involved in the Biological Sciences Club, Pre-Vet Club, Honors Program, Program for Women in Science and Engineering and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She plans to continue her studies in the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
