Sioux County 4-H’er Receives Juergens 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $1,500 scholarship has been awarded to a Sioux County 4-H member. Devin De Weerd, Hull, received the Juergens 4-H scholarship sponsored by the Juergens family in honor of Dale and Ruth Juergens.
De Weerd, a nine-year 4-H member is the son of Don and Deb De Weerd. He has been involved in the agriculture and natural resources, child development, mechanical and engineering and photography project areas and has been recognized at the state level in various project areas. He also has received the Outstanding 4-H’er, Muth Citizenship, Ak-Sar-Ben Citizenship and Danforth “I Dare You” awards, served as president of his club and county 4-H council and attended the Citizenship-Washington Focus and Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“4-H has greatly influenced my career decision through my projects, state 4-H conference and engineering workshops,” De Weerd said. “4-H has equipped me with many life skills and I have gained knowledge though the projects I have worked on.”
A recent graduate of Boyden-Hull High School, De Weerd plans to attend Iowa State University for engineering.
